Committee-based Approach
Ways of Policies Development
A committee-based approach involves forming a dedicated policy committee consisting of representatives from different departments. This committee is responsible for researching, drafting, and revising policies. The matter of ensuring that all relevant areas within the organization are considered. The process starts with the formation of committees where their members include representatives from various departments, after committee formation, each member’s responsibilities are clearly defined. Some are responsible for drafting, while others may review compliance. The committee then starts the collaborative drafting. As each ensures that the policy covers all elements.Once the draft is completed, it is internally reviewed between other departments who were not part of the committee and finally approved. By bringing professionals from different areas, the committee-based approach ensures that policies are well-defined and address a wide range of expertise. It also allows for comprehensive feedback at every stage. The collaborative nature of that approach makes the development process slower; it also needs huge resources which may be time, personnel, and administrative support. Along with diversity, there is a risk of conflicts between members, which slow down decision-making. These conflicts can range from disagreements on policy content to power struggles within the committee. In some cases, there is complexity as a result of input from too many stakeholders, making the policy harder to follow.
